Employee Benefits and Insurance

To get the best employees, most companies offer several benefits. Insurance is often offered to all workers. There are different types of insurance policies that a corporation can get for its employees. Medical insurance is one of the benefits that are offered to full-time workers in a company. It covers costs incurred for the treatment of sicknesses. This includes payments for the fee of the doctor, surgeon and/or other healthcare professionals. It covers hospital bills and can also include the cost of prescription drugs. It may include an annual comprehensive medical examination. Some medical insurance policies for employees cover dental and optical care, while others do not.

Income protection is another type of benefit that employees can enjoy. However, this privilege is less often offered than medical insurance. Having income protection means that a worker would still be able to receive his wages even if he is rendered unable to report for work due to an injury or disability. As such, it is also called “disability insurance.” It can be short-term, meaning that compensation is given to the employee right away. A long-term coverage can include lifelong disabilities like spinal injuries. Retirement benefits are intended to give an employee funds to live on when he retires. This amount can be computed in different ways. At times, it is calculated according to a person’s salary and the number of years he has spent working for the company. On the other hand, this fund can be based on contributions from both the employee and the employer. It also depends on the investment returns of these contributions. This means that a certain amount is deducted from an employee’s salary each month for his retirement funds.
